India's aviation sector achieved a great feat in November 2024. According to the aviation regulator Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), November 2024 saw the highest-ever traffic in the history of domestic aviation. This means that a record number of air passengers flew in November.

The record jump in the number of air passengers benefited both airlines and airports. November 2024 was the best month so far for Delhi Airport when the number of passengers flying from there reached a record high. At the same time, three airlines have given their best performance in the month of November.

IndiGo has become the first airline in India to fly more than 10 million passengers in a month. Of these, 90.7 lakh were domestic and the rest were international travelers. IndiGo's history is 18 years old and since then this is the airline's highest domestic passenger numbers in a month. IndiGo's market share also reached an all-time high of 63.6 percent in November.

At the same time, Air India of Tata Group has also recorded air travel of 34.7 lakh passengers in November. This also includes its subsidiary Air India Express. Air India's market share stood at 27.3 percent in November. There is news of the integration of Air India with Vistara, another company of Tata Group.

India's domestic aviation sector crossed the traffic level of 2023 before the end of 2024. December 2024 is poised to be a record month, with passenger traffic 3% higher than in November. Many times, the domestic aviation industry has carried more than 5 lakh passengers in a day.

But this is not reflected in the total annual growth of passenger traffic, which is at a rate between 5 percent to 6 percent. The airlines have also resisted increasing the fares. Even the Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu objected to it. However, according to the aviation industry, it has to expand its services so that demand can be met. For that, the fare needs to be increased.
