Onion prices are easing across the country as fresh Kharif crops reach markets, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said on Wednesday.
In Maharashtra, India's key onion market, the weighted average mandi price fell from around ₹4,030 per quintal on September 16 to about ₹3,475 per quintal on October 3, a drop of nearly 13%. In per-kg terms, that is roughly ₹40 falling to under ₹35 at the wholesale level.
Retail prices are following. As many as 126 cities have reported declines of ₹1–21 per kg over the past two weeks.
