According to Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), there is a large malware attack affecting WhatsApp Web and Desktop users. This attack will enable the criminals to gain control of devices and can create a serious problem.

It is recommended by CERT-In that WhatsApp Web and Desktop users should exercise caution when opening any file received by them, no matter whether it is received from a known person such as a colleague, family member, or friend.

They explain that the hackers make use of compromised WhatsApp account to send harmful Visual Basic Script (VB-Script) files to known persons of the user.
