On Friday, the Kerala High Court gave a big order in the case of gold plating on the statues of the gatekeepers located in front of the Sabarimala temple. Under this, the court has ordered the immediate seizure of all records related to the gold plating in the case. A bench of Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V and KV Jayakumar gave this direction during the hearing in the case. The question in the case was why the golden copper strips on the gatekeepers were removed without informing the Special Commissioner, Sabarimala, first.

The court said that many questions are still unanswered in the entire process, and hence, immediate seizure of the record is necessary, which should contain full details of when and how the gold plating was done. The court said that we direct the Chief Superintendent (Vigilance) and Security Officer of the Police Department to seize all the documents related to gold plating, such as Dwarpalak, the upper part of the door, Lakshmi Rupam, and Kamanam. During this, the court also made it clear that these documents should be from the day when this work was done for the first time.

According to the information received, this gold plating was done more than a decade ago, even before 2019. In such a situation, the police will also have to ensure that the files of the second set of Dwarpalaks kept in the strong room are also presented before the court. Apart from this, the court has also made the firm and the sponsor the parties, who were entrusted with the work of this gold plating, so that there can be complete clarity of the matter.

This order has come at a time when, two days ago, the court had directed the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to bring back the gold-plated copper plates from Chennai to Sabarimala. The court had criticized the board and said that it is inappropriate to remove such things without permission. However, earlier on Tuesday, the board had denied the news in the media, which said that the gold plates of the gatekeepers of the Sabarimala temple had been sent to Chennai without permission.
