Australian Open 2025: Top seed Jannik Sinner defeated the challenge of second-seeded German player Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in straight sets in the men's singles final played on Sunday.

The world number-1 men's singles tennis player, Jannik Sinner has kept his supremacy in the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, as the defending champion. The top-seeded Italian player defeated the challenge of second-seeded German player Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in straight sets in the men's singles final here on Sunday. Zverev won the third Grand Slam in his career. This includes two Australian Opens and one US Open.

Jannik Sinner was the first player in five years to defend the Australian Open men's singles title. Prior to that Serbian player Novak Djokovic defended his title back in 2020. Special it may sound, Sinner appeared in the final of the Australian Open for the second time and won titles both times.

Jannik Sinner has lost the second consecutive match against Zverev. However, before this, Zverev had a better record and he defeated Sinner in four consecutive matches. A total of seven matches have been played between the two players. In this, Sinner has won three and Zverev has won four. 

The dream of German player Alexander Zverev to be a Grand Slam champion for the first time was shattered. He reached the final of a Grand Slam tournament for the third time and lost in all. Earlier, he lost in the finals of the French Open and Wimbledon in 2024. He has become the sixth male player to lose his first three Grand Slam finals in the Open Era. Meanwhile, Zverev looked very frustrated with his poor show during the match. During this, post the lost point, he broke his racket by banging on the ground out of anger.
