Mutual fund investors invested a record Rs 21,262 crore in the Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) in June 2024. This is the 12th consecutive month when investment in SIP has reached a record level. This figure was Rs 20,904 crore in May. On the back of a boom in the market and new investment flow, the assets under management (AUM) under SIP also increased to Rs 12.43 lakh crore. According to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi) on Tuesday, investment in equity mutual funds also rose 17% to a record high of Rs 40,608 crore last month. In May 2024, this figure was Rs 34,697 crore.

Last month, investment in multicap stocks reached a 27-month high of Rs 4,709 crore. At the same time, sectoral or thematic funds in mutual fund schemes received the most investment for the second consecutive month. In June, they received an investment of Rs 22,352 crore.

Investment in large-cap stocks increased 46% to a three-month high of Rs 970 crore. At the same time, investment in small-caps increased by 16% to Rs 2,260 crore, while midcaps increased by 3% to Rs 2,528 crore.

Amfi CEO Venkat Chalasani said a total of 55 lakh new SIP accounts were opened in June. This increased the total number of SIP accounts to 8.98 crore. At the same time, 32.35 lakh SIP accounts matured or were closed. However, he did not say how much net investment was made in SIP after capital withdrawal.

The AUM of the mutual fund industry was more than Rs 61.33 lakh crore till June. On the other hand, domestic investors have made a net investment of Rs 5.99 lakh crore in equity mutual funds in 40 months since February 2021. The benchmark NSE Nifty-50 has registered a growth of 65 percent in 40 months.
