The Insta360 X4 Air features dual 1/1.8-inch sensors with an aperture of f/1.95 and a focal length of 6.4mm. This camera can record video at up to 8K resolution at 30fps. InstaFrame mode supports up to 6K at 30fps, and Me mode supports up to 4K at 30fps. The company claims its dual sensors increase the pixel area by 134% compared to the standard X4 model, resulting in better detail and more vibrant colors. Videos can be recorded in H.264 and H.265 formats at bitrates up to 180Mbps.

It features an AdaptiveTone exposure algorithm, which balances the brightness and color of the entire 360-degree image by analyzing the light coming from both lenses separately. The Active HDR feature increases dynamic range and balances highlights and shadows. The camera offers three color profiles—Vivid, Standard, and Flat.

During 360° video recording, the camera supports modes like Active HDR, InstaFrame, Time-lapse, Timeshift, Loop Recording, and Rode. Single-lens modes include Video, FreeFrame, Me Mode, and Loop Recording. For audio, it offers features like Auto Wind Reduction, Active Wind Reduction, Stereo, and Direction Focus.

The Insta360 X4 Air can capture still photos up to 29 megapixels (7,680×3,840 pixels). It supports Photo, HDR Photo, Interval, Starlapse, and Burst modes.

The camera features a user-replaceable lens and an ultra-hard optical coating on its sensor, making it twice as drop-resistant as the standard model. The company claims the camera is waterproof up to 49 feet and features FlowState stabilization and 360° Horizon Lock, which keep videos stable.

It also has gesture support—a 'Twist to Shoot' gesture can be used to start video recording. Gesture control can recognize hand gestures, while voice commands allow hands-free operation.

The Insta360 X4 Air packs a 2,010mAh battery that delivers up to 88 minutes of 8K 30fps video recording. The camera measures 46×113.8×37mm and weighs 165 grams.
