South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bat first. After winning the toss, Bavuma said, "We will bat first. We have to start afresh. The wicket looks much better. There are really no cracks on the pitch. I'm very excited and happy to be a part of this historic moment. Muthusamy has returned to our team." Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant said, "I am grateful to the BCCI for giving me this opportunity. Nitish Reddy and Sai Sudarshan have returned to our team."
