The quorum headed by IndiGo said in the order that this is a case of deficiency in services on the part of IndiGo. Indigo will have to pay compensation of Rs 50 thousand to the couple along with Rs 10 thousand for mental stress and Rs 10 thousand for legal expenses. Surabhi Srinivas, a resident of Byappanahalli, Karnataka, and her husband Bola Vedavyas Shenoy had decided to spend the year 2021 on a holiday in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The two booked their tickets on IndiGo to travel from Bengaluru to Port Blair and reached their destination on 1 November 2021. Their luggage was checked and contained essential items like clothes, medicines, and ferry tickets for boat rides to the Andamans but it took two days for the luggage to reach Port Blair. It is obvious that their holiday fun was spoiled due to the negligence of the airlines.
The couple immediately lodged a complaint about this with Indigo Airlines. The airline crew member assured them that their luggage would be delivered to them the next day. This promise made by the airline staff to the couple failed. The goods were delivered to this couple two days later i.e. on 3rd November. By now half of his journey was over. Due to the non-availability of goods, the couple had to buy the necessary items from the local market. Apparently irritated by the airline's negligence, the couple sent a legal notice to InterGlobe Aviation Limited, the operators of Indigo Airlines, on November 18 after returning to Bengaluru. When this did not work, the couple filed a complaint against IndiGo in Shantinagar District Consumer Redressal Commission, Bengaluru. Now after two years, the decision came in favor of the couple and Indigo Airlines will have to pay a fine of Rs 70 thousand.
