Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Navin Chawla died on Saturday at the age of 79. His death has been reported by former Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi. Apart from this, an official of the Election Commission has also confirmed Chawla's death.

Former CEC SY Qureshi said that he met Chawla about 10 days ago, at that time Chawla told him that he was being admitted to the hospital for brain surgery. He died this morning at Apollo Hospital. He said that when they met for the last time, they were happy.

SY Qureshi wrote on X, sad to know about the death of former Chief Election Commissioner of India Navin Chawla. May his soul rest in peace. Former bureaucrat Chawla was the Election Commissioner from 2005 to 2009 and then the Chief Election Commissioner from April 2009 to July 2010.

The then Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami had accused Naveen Chawla of alleged discrimination in work and recommended to the President to remove him from the post of Election Commissioner. After this, a lot of controversy was seen.
