Subhash Ghai Reflects on Khalnayak’s 33rd Anniversary
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai looks back at Khalnayak on its 33rd anniversary, recalling the idea of telling the tragedy of a villain and giving the character a moral backstory.
Mumbai, Aug 6 (IANS) Filmmaker Subhash Ghai looked back at his film ‘Khalnayak’ as it clocked 33 years of its release on Thursday.
The filmmaker also shared what ignited his creative spark with regards to the film’s idea, and said that he wanted to give a backstory to the film’s titular character, and present the events that led to him becoming the villain.
Talking about the film's legacy, Subhash Ghai said, “When Ravan in a character turns into sri ram because of his own consciousness. This theme clicked in my mind before I started writing the script of ‘Khalnayak’ was a story of the tragedy of a villain. Even though it has been 33 years of casting Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixit, it still feels fresh even today.
