Taking to social media on Friday, Suri shared the newly released trailer and posted a reflective statement detailing his connection to the story.
"This one feels special. Like a long-lost love, like an old friend you haven’t met in years but still deeply miss," Suri wrote. "19 years later, and this movie still matters so much to me. Thank you, Nitin Kakkar, for bringing back something that is so close to my heart and for doing it with so much love, flourish, sensitivity and heart."
Suri directed the initial 2007 installment, which faced initial commercial friction during its original theatrical run before evolving into a beloved cult favorite driven by high audience engagement on home video and television platforms. The original soundtrack, featuring iconic tracks like "Toh Phir Aao" and "Tera Mera Rishta", played a foundational role in sustaining the film's long-term popularity across South Asia.
In his message, Suri commended screenwriter Bilal Siddiqui, producer Vishesh Bhatt, and lead actor Disha Patani for expanding the franchise's visual and emotional scale. He also reaffirmed his professional and personal bond with lead actor Emraan Hashmi.
"To my hero, and always, always will be — Emi, I’m sure you have given this one your all, like you did to me 18 years back," Suri added. "And my little brother Vishesh Bhatt, I’ve passed on the baton to you, and now I can’t wait for the world to see what magic you have created."
Creative Evolution and On-Ground Expectations
Directed by Nitin Kakkar (Filmistaan), Awarapan 2 picks up nineteen years after the events of the original narrative. The story reintroduces an older, battle-hardened Shivam Pandit navigating revenge, moral conflict, and redemption after being drawn back into a dangerous underworld network.
The ensemble cast features Disha Patani in an action-oriented role alongside veteran actor Shabana Azmi, who plays the primary antagonist. Supporting roles are portrayed by Puran Gabbi, Aniruddh Rawal, Suvinder Vicky, Vijayant Kohli, and Atul Kumar. To build momentum leading up to the sequel, Vishesh Films re-released the remastered original 2007 Awarapan in select theatres on July 31, 2026.
The film's multi-composer soundtrack—featuring tracks by Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli, Amaal Mallik, and Akhil Sachdeva—remains a cornerstone of the project's marketing campaign. Distributed by Pen Marudhar across India, Awarapan 2 is positioned as a major Independence Day holiday release when it opens in cinemas on August 14.
