Electric car sales increased by 93.21% in a year; decline in e-two-wheelers

Electric Vehicle Sales: Electric car sales have increased by 93.21 percent in a year. According to the FADA report, policy support and improvement in charging infrastructure have led to a boom in sales. However, e-two-wheelers have declined.

Retail sales of electric passenger cars (e-cars) increased 93.21% year-on-year to 15,528 units in July 2025 on the back of policy support and enhancement in the charging infrastructure. In the corresponding period of last year, 8,037 e-passenger cars were sold. Tata Motors accounted for the highest volume in overall sales.

According to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) on Friday, Tata Motors led the way with sales of 6,047 e-passenger vehicles. This number is 18.57% more than the 5,100 units sold in July 2024. MG Motor India, which is in second place, sold 5,089 e-passenger vehicles, an increase of 214.91% year-on-year. According to the data, e-two-wheeler sales declined by 4.35% year-on-year to 1,02,973 units last month. A total of 1,07,655 e-two-wheelers were sold in July 2024. TVS Motor Company topped this segment with registration of 22,256 units.

Sales of e-three-wheelers grew 9 per cent to 69,146 units. 63,675 e-three-wheelers were sold in the same period a year ago. Mahindra Group led the segment with registration of 9,766 units. Retail sales of e-commercial vehicles grew 52.1 per cent year-on-year to 1,244 units.

The market share of e-vehicles has also seen an increase due to increased sales. The market share of e-passenger vehicles increased to 4.7% in July, which was 2.4% in July 2024. The market share of e-two-wheelers increased from 7.4% to 7.5%, e-three-wheelers from 57.6% to 62.1% and e-commercial vehicles increased from 1.07% to 1.63%. FADA President CS Vigneshwar said, good sales are expected during the festivals.
