EPFO Launches Aadhaar-Based Portal to Help Employees Find Old PF Accounts and Unclaimed EPF Funds

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced an Aadhaar-based online portal. It aims to help employees locate their old or dormant PF accounts. Many employees, who changed jobs prior to 2014, had opened multiple PF accounts; however, there are no records of them. This portal can help employees locate their old EPF accounts and transfer funds to their existing accounts.

The Aadhaar-based EPFO portal is already operational, but the organization has not declared any date of launch or details about the website address or documents required to use this portal. Once launched, this feature could simplify the process of locating old PF accounts.

According to an RTI reply, as of March 31, 2026, over 3.09 million inactive EPF accounts held unclaimed funds of approximately ₹9,330 crore. Before the introduction of UAN in 2014, each employer issued a separate EPF member ID to employees. When employees changed jobs, a new PF account was often created with the new employer. After the introduction of UAN, the EPFO ​​​​began linking multiple member IDs to a single account. Many employees who changed jobs before 2014 either never linked their old accounts or do not remember their previous member IDs. Therefore, the new portal could play a crucial role in identifying such accounts and delivering their funds to employees.

Through the new Aadhaar-based portal, employees will be able to verify their identity through Aadhaar authentication. The system will then search for old EPF accounts based on the employee's information. If old accounts are found, employees will be able to link them to their current Universal Account Number (UAN) or apply for account settlement.

For PF services, employees may need their Aadhaar card, mobile number linked to Aadhaar, old EPF account details, employer details, PAN card, and bank account details linked to their current UAN.
