Sela Tunnel recognized by International Book of Honor, officially recognized as India's highest tunnel

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world's longest two-lane tunnel, the Sela Tunnel, in Arunachal Pradesh on March 9.

Situated at an altitude of 13,000 feet, the strategically important Sela Tunnel will ensure all-weather connectivity to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. This double-lane all-weather tunnel will connect the West Kaming and Tawang districts of Arunachal Pradesh. This is the only route to reach LAC.

After the inauguration of the tunnel, Prime Minister Modi said in his speech, "You must have heard about 'Modi's Guarantee'. You will understand its importance when you come to Arunachal. The entire Northeast is witness to this. I inaugurated the Sela Tunnel right here in 2019." The foundation stone was laid and today it has been inaugurated."

Currently at Sela Pass, Indian Army soldiers and people of the area are using the Balipara-Chariduar Road to reach Tawang. Due to excessive snowfall in the winter season, severe snow accumulates in Sela Pass. Due to this the road is completely closed. Also, the pass has 30 very winding turns. Due to this, the movement here is completely disrupted. One has to wait for several hours for the journey. During this time the entire Tawang sector gets cut off from the rest of the country. The Sela Pass Tunnel will bypass the existing road and it will connect Baisakhi to Nuranang. Additionally, the Sela Tunnel cuts through the Sela-Charbela Ridge, which separates the Tawang district from the West Kameng district.
