Based on Activa and Shine, Honda crossed the 6 crore unit sales mark, know how the journey started in 1999
HMSI was established in 1999 and in 2001 its first manufacturing plant in Manesar started production for the Activa which helped establish Honda in India and is still the best-selling scooter in the Indian market. The company currently has three different types of outlets – Red Wing BigWing and BigWing Topline.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced that they have achieved the milestone of 6 crore domestic sales in India. The company increased its annual sales by 86 percent in February 2024 and total retail sales this month were 458,711 units. The Japanese two-wheeler maker dispatched 247,195 units of motorcycles and scooters in February last year, compared to January 2024.
Established in 1999, HMSI began producing the Activa in 2001 at its first manufacturing plant in Manesar. The Activa is still the most popular scooter in India and played a major role in the establishment of Honda in that country. Honda started exporting goods from India in 2002, and the company introduced the Unicorn in 2004 to compete in the 150 cc class.
The company entered the 125cc class when it introduced Shine to the Indian market. Honda recently decided to release the Shine 100 because the Shine 125 is such a well-liked motorcycle in the Indian market. 2012 saw a total of one crore domestic sales for the brand. In 2015 and 2017, the brand reached milestones of Rs 2 crore and Rs 4 crore, respectively. After this, in the year 2021, he completed 5 crore domestic sales in India and this year this figure has crossed 6 crore.
The company currently has three different types of outlets – Red Wing, BigWing and BigWing Topline. HMSI's premium motorcycles, the Bigwing topline and exclusively mid-size motorcycles, are sold at Bigwing showrooms. The rest of the motorcycles and scooters are sold through Red Wing outlets, which currently include four scooters and 9 motorcycles.
