Ashwini-Tanisha and Satish Kumar win Guwahati Masters title
Guwahati Masters 2024: Ashwini and Tanisha defeated China's Li Hua Zhou and Wang Ji Meng 21-18, 21-12 in a 43-minute final to retain the prestigious title.
On Sunday, top seeds Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto in women's doubles and third seed Satish Kumar Karunakaran in men's singles won the Guwahati Masters Super 100 badminton title here. Ashwini and Tanisha defeated China's Li Hua Zhou and Wang Ji Meng 21-18, 21-12 in a 43-minute final to retain the prestigious title.
In the final match of the day, Satish Kumar added a second Super 100 title to his cabinet as he beat Zhu Zhuan Chen of China 21-17, 21-14. The 23-year-old Satish Kumar, winner of the Odisha Masters Super 100 last year, will now travel to Bhubaneswar high on confidence.
This is the second edition of the tournament, which happens in association with the Badminton Association of India and the Assam Badminton Association specifically to provide much-needed experience for some young Indian shutters across the globe.
India could have won three titles on the final day but emerging star Anmol Kharab lost steam after winning the first game and went down 14-21, 21-13, 21-19 in the final against China's Cai Yan Yan. India and China won two titles each in the tournament while Malaysian pair Chia Weijie and Lv Sheng Hao won the men's doubles title.
