Army officer beats SpiceJet employees, breaks their spine; airline writes letter to government

SpiceJet airline company has stated that on the 26th of July 2025, a passenger on one of its flights from Srinagar to Delhi severely beat up four employees of its company. The employees were beaten so severely that one of the employees' spine was broken and one sustained serious jaw injuries. The victims are being treated at the hospital. The airline company has written a letter to the government asking for strict action in this regard.

The airline representative explained, On July 26, 2025, a passenger assaulted four SpiceJet staff members at the boarding gate of flight number SG-386 from Srinagar to Delhi. The staff members were assaulted with kicks, punches and a queuing stand. The staff members got spinal fractures and severe jaw injuries in the assault. One employee fell unconscious on the ground, but the passenger continued to kick and punch him. Another employee, who was helping the unconscious employee, was kicked hard on the jaw and started bleeding from the nose and mouth. The injured employees have suffered serious injuries and are currently being treated in the hospital. The airline said that the accused passenger was a senior military officer.

SpiceJet said that the passenger was carrying two cabin bags weighing a total of 16 kg, which was more than double the limit of 7 kg. When he was politely informed about the extra baggage and asked to pay the applicable fee, the passenger refused and tried to forcefully enter the aircraft without completing the boarding process. This is clearly a violation of aviation security protocol. CISF security personnel then brought the passenger back to the gate. At the gate, the passenger's behaviour became even more aggressive and he assaulted four SpiceJet ground staff members.'

The local police have registered an FIR in the matter and the airline has initiated the process of putting the passenger on the no-fly list as per civil aviation rules. SpiceJet has written to the Civil Aviation Ministry informing about the murderous attack on its employees and sought appropriate action against the passenger. The airline has obtained CCTV footage of the incident from the airport authorities and handed it over to the police.
