Another big achievement in the name of football legend Lionel Messi
FIFA Player of the Year: Argentina won the World Cup in 2022 under the captaincy of football legend Lionel Messi. Apart from 2019, Messi has won the FIFA Player of the Year award for the second consecutive time in 2022 and 2023.
World champion Argentina football team captain Lionel Messi continued his reign by winning the FIFA Men's Player of the Year award for the second consecutive time. The 36-year-old veteran player has won this award for the third time in his career. These awards were started in 2016. Just two months ago, Messi was also honoured with the Ballon d'Or Award. He left behind France's star player Kylian Mbappe and Norway's Erling Holland for this award. Holland was second and Mbappe was third.
Messi's performance last season was excellent. While playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), he led the team to the French-1 title. After leaving PSG, he joined American football club Inter Miami. He scored 10 goals in seven matches and made the team the Leagues Cup champion.
Aitana Bonametti, the female player of Spain's football team, who will become world champion in 2023, has been given the FIFA Woman Player of the Year Award. The 25-year-old Bonametti also won his first Ballon d'Or award in October 2023.
Messi could not attend the ceremony to receive the award. In such a situation, former French footballer Thierry Henry received the Messi Award in his place.
Manchester City team coach Pep Guardiola has received the Best Men's Coach Award. At the same time, England team coach Sarina Wigman was chosen as the best female coach.
