After Trump’s Order, IOC Reportedly Mulls Complete Ban on Transgender Participation at LA Olympics
IOC set to ban all transgender athletes in the 2028 Olympics: The International Olympic Committee (IOC), under the leadership of new president Kirsty Coventry, is considering a complete ban on transgender athletes from the 2028 Olympic Games. Discussions on this issue are ongoing, although no decision has been made yet.
Meanwhile, the IOC is poised to ban all transgender competitors from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. But it's not yet known whether DSD-diagnosed stars such as Iman Khalif will be banned. Transgender boxer Iman Khalif struck gold during the women's 66 kg category at this summer's 2024 Paris Olympics. A female boxer walked out of the ring after being hit by a punch during Khalif's run for the gold medal.
According to a report in Daily Mail Sport, the IOC, under the leadership of new president Kirsty Coventry, is discussing a significant change to this policy, which would implement a complete ban on transgender athletes at the 2028 Olympic Games. However, this is not expected to be implemented before next year's Winter Olympics. It is estimated that the new policy will take six months to a year to fully implement.
This issue was part of Coventry's campaign, which helped Trump win the presidential election earlier this year. The IOC initiated this discussion following US President Donald Trump's decision to sign an executive order prohibiting transgender women from competing in women's sports.

An IOC statement provided to Daily Mail Sport claims that the IOC's Director of Health, Medicine and Science provided an update to IOC members during last week's IOC Commission meetings. The working group is continuing its discussions on the topic, although no decisions have yet been made.
Last week, Dr. Jane Thornton, the IOC's Director of Medicine, Health and Science, also gave a presentation to members, which included a science-based review of transgender and DSD issues. According to reports, the IOC has not yet reached a decision. The presentation highlighted the difference between transgender and DSD in athletes who have male chromosomes but were raised as female.
According to current rules, each sport is given the right to decide whether transgender women can compete. Transgender women may be allowed to compete if their testosterone levels are below a certain threshold. For example, Laurel Hubbard was allowed to participate in weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics.
