Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced the launch of a helpline service in India. WhatsApp has said that through these helplines, complaints about misinformation, AI-generated fake content and deepfakes can be made.

According to the Meta and Misinformation Combat Alliance (MCA), WhatsApp users will soon have access to a helpline desk where they can report false information.

A group of roughly twenty tech companies, including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta, banded together a few days ago to prevent the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and fake content during the upcoming elections in India and other countries.

In collaboration with partners in the tech sector, MCA fights false information. Deepfakes are currently a major problem. Videos or images that are deepfake can be in any format.

These days, deepfakes are getting so accurate that it's hard to tell the difference between a real thing and a fake. To fight deepfakes, MCA is also creating a central deepfake analysis unit which will identify deepfake content.
