'Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not play 2027 ODI World Cup', this veteran's statement shocked the cricket world
Sunil Gavaskar on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, World Cup 2027: After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket, Sunil Gavaskar believes that both of them will not be able to be a part of the next ODI World Cup to be held in 2027.

The Indian cricket team has lost a significant number of players within seven days. India's finest batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both confirmed their retirement from Test cricket. While Rohit had last week declared that he is leaving Test cricket behind, Kohli shocked the world on Monday by resigning from Test cricket.
Although both players have made it clear that they will continue to play in ODI cricket, this, former India captain and legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar believes that neither of them will not be part of the team in the 2027 World Cup. Gavaskar said in a TV interview, "He has performed brilliantly in ODIs, but the selection committee will now be looking towards 2027. Can he remain on the team till then? Will he be able to contribute at the same level? It is in the hands of the selectors to decide."
He further said, "According to me, he will not play the 2027 World Cup. But cricket is a game of uncertainties. If he keeps scoring runs continuously in the next two years, scores century after century, then it will not be in anyone's power to drop him from the team, not even God."
It is worth noting that Kohli and Rohit played an important role in India's victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Kohli scored the most runs against Australia in the semi-finals, while Rohit Sharma played a quick innings of 76 runs against New Zealand. Gavaskar believes that the future of Rohit and Kohli in the 50-over format will depend on how the team management and the selection committee view them.
