Issuing an alert on Thursday, the Meteorological Department said that the storm in the Bay of Bengal may reach the West Bengal coast by Sunday. Fishermen have been forbidden from going to the Bay of Bengal.

The air pressure over the Bay of Bengal was expected to drop on Wednesday, according to the Meteorological Department's forecast. This means that in some places, there may be a chance of severe rain or a storm. The storm is intensifying, according to the Meteorological Department's statement on Thursday. By Sunday, it will be a severe cyclone that has made landfall in West Bengal.

It might intensify into a severe cyclone by May 26 and make landfall on the coasts of Bangladesh and West Bengal. Rain is, therefore, possible in many parts of the coastal districts of West Bengal, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and East Medinipur.

According to IMD, due to the cyclone on Sunday, wind can blow at a speed of 102 kilometers per hour. The weather office has warned of very heavy rainfall over coastal districts of West Bengal, north Odisha, Mizoram, Tripura, and south Manipur on May 26-27.

He said that the low pressure present in the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a cyclonic storm over the east-central Bay of Bengal. It will reach Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts by Sunday evening as a severe cyclonic storm. The weather office has given a clear warning to fishermen not to venture into the North Bay of Bengal till Sunday.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted rain with lightning and strong winds in some parts of Andhra Pradesh from May 23 to 27. Rain is likely over parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South. NCAP has predicted heavy rain in some places on Friday.

According to the weather department, strong winds with velocities of up to 50 km/h are predicted. Over the course of the next two days, it is anticipated that the Southwest Monsoon will continue to advance and reach additional areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Andaman Sea, and the east-central Bay of Bengal. The Meteorological Department reports that the low pressure that developed on Wednesday over the west-central and nearby southwest Bay of Bengal has moved northeastward.

The weather department said it is likely to move northeast and intensify into a cyclonic storm over the east-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 25.

Madhavan Rajeevan, former secretary of the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences, said that for a low-pressure system to turn into a cyclone, the sea surface temperature is required to be 27 degrees Celsius and above. The sea surface temperature in the Bay of Bengal is currently around 30 degrees Celsius.

"The Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea are very warm at the moment, so tropical cyclones can easily form," Rajeevan said. "If the vertical wind shear is too large the cyclone will not intensify. It will weaken," he said.
