It will not be easy to cheat consumers now. At present, ordinary consumers usually refrain from complaining to the consumer forum despite being cheated by a shopkeeper, company, or service provider. Because they are not aware of its process and in this work, they have to give things in writing.

However, even now lakhs of complaints are made by aware consumers in the consumer forum against the products of the insurance sector, e-commerce companies, and other companies in a year, but due to delays in hearing and the hassle of constantly following the case, even aware consumers are not able to get justice many times.

To provide timely justice to consumers and motivate common people to come forward with complaints, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs can launch the e-Jagriti app on the occasion of Consumer Day on December 24. The e-Jagriti portal was launched on December 24 last year, but this portal has not yet become fully operational. The process of bringing this portal into full operation can also start from December 24.

After the e-Jagriti portal gets into operation, consumers would not have to go to the state and district consumer court for complaints. They would log in with their mobile phone or email ID and do a full registration of the complaint. From fees to other related documents, they would also upload them and get information about the hearing on the portal and app itself. The facilities will also provide for a system of virtual hearings, and not having to attend the court means that a consumer will also be able to constantly access and keep tabs on their case from anywhere in the country.

Presently, over five lakh complaints are registered every year in consumer courts and forums at various levels in the country. Many such cases remain pending for several months due to one reason or another. Once the e-Jagrati portal becomes functional, the disposal of cases will be easier and the consumers will be better informed about their rights.

On Consumer Day, all online companies like Zomato, Ajio, Big Basket can also take an oath to protect consumers. Companies will take an oath not to sell any unsafe and dangerous products for consumers on their site.
