Neeraj Chopra missed 90 meters, finished second in Lausanne Diamond League
Lausanne Diamond League: Neeraj Chopra performed brilliantly in the Lausanne Diamond League with a season's best throw of 89.49 meters. He finished second in the Lausanne Diamond League on Thursday, August 22. Neeraj made the second-best throw of his career and once again missed the distance of 90 meters. Anderson Peters broke the meeting record and finished first with a throw of 90.61 meters.
Paris Olympics silver medalist Neeraj Chopra turned in a fine performance in the Lausanne Diamond League on Thursday, August 22. In this, Neeraj clinched the second position with a season's best throw of 89.49 meters. Neeraj wasn't in his best form but tried his best on the last attempt. Once again missed the distance of 90 meters. Anderson Peters broke the Meeting Record and finished first with a throw of 90.61 meters.
Jacob Vadlejch and Neeraj had to contend with the conditions of the day. Neeraj began with a throw of 82.10m and was fourth at the end of Round 1. Anderson Peters took an early lead with a brilliant throw of 86.36 at that time while Jakub Vadlejch looked to be struggling initially.
The Indian veteran was better in his second attempt. Neeraj returned to the top 3 with a throw of 83.21m. Peters then threw 88.49m while Weber followed him 87.08m. Ukraine's Artur Felfner went 83.38m, which again pushed Neeraj to fourth.
Neeraj Chopra was always a star of Lausanne. Moving on to the 2022 Lausanne Diamond League, double Olympic medallist also went on to win with a best of 87.66m and continued into 2023 with his top-of-the-podium finish with 89.08m.
Neeraj, who finished second here on Thursday, has confirmed a top-3 berth in the Diamond League standings for the 2024 season. Neeraj was fourth with 7 points on account of his second-place finish in Doha earlier this season. He will probably line up in Zurich on September 5 before the Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 13-14.
Only the reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem missed out on the star-studded field at the Lausanne Diamond League. The field also included Paris Olympics bronze medallist Anderson Peters, Diamond Trophy 2023 winner Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic, and Julian Weber of Germany.
