Karnataka High Court allows pregnant woman to take exam in her hometown, Chief Justice approves the decision

Karnataka: For the first time, the Karnataka High Court has allowed a woman to appear for the main examination of a Civil Judge in her hometown. Actually, the woman is eight and a half months pregnant, hence she is not able to go outside Mangaluru to appear for the exam. The High Court had issued a notification to conduct the examination in March this year for the recruitment of 57 judges.

For the first time, the Karnataka High Court has allowed a woman to appear for the main examination of a Civil Judge in her hometown. Actually, the woman is eight and a half months pregnant, hence she is not able to go outside Mangaluru to appear for the exam. The High Court had issued a notification to conduct the examination in March this year for the recruitment of 57 judges.

The preliminary exam was held on July 23, 2023, in which 1,022 out of over 6,000 candidates were selected for the main exam to be held on Saturday and Sunday in Bengaluru. Netravati, a lawyer from Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada district, was selected for the main examination.

She submitted a request to the High Court that she be allowed to take the examination in the district itself as she is unable to travel to Bengaluru due to health reasons as she is pregnant.
