Indian researchers have developed a vaccination that can fight several types of germs at once to protect kids from typhoid.

Both Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi infections are prevented by this vaccination. The National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, located in Kolkata, is the organisation that prepared it. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), situated in New Delhi, has said that it will collaborate with private businesses to accurately evaluate its calibre.

According to researchers, Salmonella bacteria causes typhoid in children. This infection is creating public health challenges in many countries. Due to delayed testing and antibiotic resistance, many asymptomatic cases remain active in the community. To face this serious challenge, Indian researchers have been searching for such a vaccine for the last several years. During the study, this vaccine S. Tyfi, S. Paratyphi, S. Typhi Museum and S. Is capable of producing adequate protective antibodies against enteritis. This is a multivalent vaccine effective against all forms of Salmonella serovars.

Currently, India has two different types of vaccines to prevent typhoid. Prepared by an Indian biotech company. This typhoid TCV typhoid vaccine received approval from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017. After this, Biological E prepared the V-I-CRM 197 typhoid vaccine, which was approved by WHO in 2020. This new vaccine will be more effective than these two.

ICMR says that if seen on a long-term basis, the current vaccine is not effective in providing long-term protection to children. It is generally said that even after vaccination, this disease can recur in children aged five to 15 years. Therefore, Indian researchers have worked on a long-lasting antibody formula that is successful in preventing the recurrence of typhoid.

Researchers say that the typhoid vaccine is very important. In the year 2019, about 92.4 lakh typhoid cases were reported worldwide and 1.10 lakh children died. Most of these cases and deaths occurred across South-East Asia and Africa, including India.
