India has banned the production and export of painkillers tapentadol and carisoprodol. The reason for taking such a step is that the abuse of these drugs has been reported in West African countries. Both of these drugs are exported from India to West African countries.

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has asked the state and union territory drug control authorities to cancel all export-related no objection certificates (NOCs) and permission to manufacture all combinations of both drugs.
