The East Ladakh sector's Depsang and Demchok areas are nearly finished with the army pullout process. The Indian and Chinese armies are verifying that each other is leaving the area and removing the infrastructure. The defense has provided this information.

It is expected that the Chinese and Indian troops in Depsang and Demchok will finish their pullout on Tuesday. Both forces will soon begin patrolling the regions they were unable to access after the standoff began in April 2020, according to army sources.

On October 21, 2024, India declared that it and China had reached an agreement to end the more than four-year-old military standoff over patrolling on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

After this, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also released a statement in which he stated that while establishing trust between the two nations will take time, the troop withdrawal is crucial. According to him, lowering tension comes after military withdrawal at two key points.

To improve diplomatic relations between the two countries, India and China will complete the process of military withdrawal across the Line of Actual Control by October 29. Sources said, "Regular ground commanders' meetings will continue to take place. The strength of the troops involved in the patrol has been identified and we inform each other when we are going to patrol to avoid any miscommunication. All temporary infrastructure like sheds or tents, and troops will be removed. Both sides will keep a watch on the area. The patrolling points in Depsang and Demchok will be the points where we were patrolling traditionally before April 2020.''
