In recent years, the country's tourism industry has undergone significant transformation. A dispute about positioning Lakshadweep as a superior tourism destination over the Maldives surfaced at the start of January this year. The North Arabian Sea island of Lakshadweep was going to see a number of development projects announced at that time by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Afterward, Lakshadweep was also being looked up on travel websites. Against this backdrop, the government is also developing plans to turn numerous other locations with great potential into tourist attractions.

Under this project, work is going on to develop border areas like Sir Creek and Kori Creek of the Kutch district of Gujarat as tourist destinations. This area is a 96-kilometer water strip between India and Pakistan, its water stream is called 'Ban Ganga'. Now the government is planning to develop this area extensively as a tourist destination. The Gujarat government has prepared a master plan to make this area a tourist destination. Apart from providing cultural, natural, and exciting experiences to tourists, the government aims to boost the local economy and create employment opportunities. Under this project, tourist destinations in border areas will be promoted.

According to government sources of Amar Ujala, this area will be developed under a Special Tourism Zone (STZ) project. A fish called Sar is found in this area, after which the area was named Sar Creek. The cuisine here has a history of its own, which is why a large number of people still visit this place. The government will now develop this area as a tourism hub. According to sources, funds will also be provided by the Central Government for these projects. Experts say that this project, which is situated in the north on the banks of Narayan Sarovar, is already a religious tourist destination. Koteshwar Temple on Kori Creek is already famous as a religious tourist destination. Now it has to be expanded.

Along with Sir Creek, Gujarat Tourism will develop Dholavira and Shivrajpur as special tourism areas. Rs 200 crore will be allocated for this entire project. Officials say that this tourist spot is in the border area, hence full care will be taken for the safety of the people visiting. A botanical garden, playground, and mangrove boardwalk are to be developed under this project. Its cost is Rs 17.6 crore.

According to an official of Make My Trip, very good work has been done on domestic tourist destinations for the last few years. Till a few years ago, only local people used to visit these tourist areas. Now people from outside are also coming to visit. There has been an increase in the number of people visiting religious tourist places. The number of tourists visiting Char Dham Yatra including Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Mathura Vrindavan is continuously increasing. This employs the local people and indirectly increases the income of the people of many areas.

According to Indian Government data, the number of domestic tourists from January to June 2022 was 1,731 lakh, which was 677 lakh in 2021. Whereas the number of foreign tourists from January to June 2023 was 43.80 lakh which was 21.24 lakh in the same period in 2022. The number of domestic tourists in religious places was 14.33 lakh in the year 2022. Whereas 64.4 lakh foreign tourists visited these places. In the year 2022, income of Rs 1.35 lakh crore was generated from these religious places.
