Former NIA Director General Dinkar Gupta received top-tier VIP security cover, classified as "Z-Plus," from the Central Government recently in anticipation of potential threats from pro-Khalistan elements. This information was provided on Thursday by official sources.

Gupta, a former DGP of the Punjab Police, retired from service in April. Sources said the VIP security wing of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been assigned the task of protecting the 1987 batch of Indian Police Service officers. Sources said that a contingent of about 40 CRPF personnel will now be deployed in shifts to protect Gupta during his presence in Punjab and Delhi.

Sources said the threat perception report prepared by the central intelligence and security agencies required top-class security for Gupta due to his work against pro-Khalistan elements and supporters in the National Investigation Agency and Punjab Police.
