FCRA cancelled five NGOs, and the Home Ministry took legal action against the NGO

Five non-governmental organisations have had their registrations revoked by the Union Home Ministry due to purported violations of multiple provisions of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. This information was provided by sources on Tuesday.

As per the received information, the following non-governmental organisations have had their registration revoked: Evangelical Fellowship of India, Voluntary Health Association of India, Indo-Global Social Service Society, Church's Auxiliary for Social Action, and CNI Synodical Board of Social Service.

All of these NGOs will no longer be able to accept donations from abroad or make use of the funds that are currently available due to the cancellation of their Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration.

Sources said the Home Ministry cancelled FCRA registration of NGOs for allegedly using funds for works that were not within their jurisdiction. He said the NGO had violated laws by indulging in activities contrary to the provisions of the FCRA.

As of July 17, 2023, there were 16,301 NGOs with valid FCRA licenses. The Center has cancelled FCRA licenses of more than 6,600 NGOs in the last five years for violating the law. Overall, FCRA licenses of 20,693 NGOs have been cancelled in the last decade.
