US plane maker Boeing has laid off 180 workers in India. Boeing has taken this step as a part of the global workforce reduction. As a cost-cutting measure and due to the necessity for adjustments, the company laid off 180 workers at the Bangalore-based Engineering Technology Center.

Boeing, which faces many challenges globally, has approximately 7,000 employees in India. India is also among the company's major markets. Boeing announced a reduction of about 10 percent in the company's overall global employees last year.

According to sources familiar with the development, 180 employees at the Boeing India Engineering Technology Center in Bangalore were laid off in the December quarter of 2024 as part of global workforce reductions. However, there has been no official statement from Boeing.

The source said that strategic adjustments were made to ensure that there was no adverse impact on customers or government operations. Some positions were eliminated, but new positions were also created. While reducing staff in India, a clear focus was placed on maintaining customer service, safety, and quality standards.

The Boeing India Engineering and Technology Center (BIETC) in Bangalore and Chennai performs complex advanced aerospace work. The company's wholly-owned engineering and technology campus in Bangalore is one of its largest investments outside the US. Apart from this, according to its website, Boeing's sourcing from India is about USD 1.25 billion annually from a network of over 300 suppliers.
