Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Scotland and England due to a side injury he picked up during his time with The Oval Invincibles in The Hundred. He said Cricket Australia has included pace bowler Sean Abbott in the team instead of the injured fast-bowling beast. Earlier, Abbott was picked up for the five-match ODI series against England. In the recent The Hundred, Johnson taking only two wickets in six matches was another one to remember. He did, however, do outstandingly against the Northern Super Chargers.

Johnson soon made a name for himself in the BBL with Brisbane Heat. The 28-year-old has played five T20s and one ODI since he made his debut against South Africa last year. He is being viewed by many as the strong contender to fill Mitchell Starc's void in the T20 team. Starc has been rested for the T20 matches against Scotland and England but will play the ODIs. Pat Cummins will miss the entirety of the tour, while Josh Hazlewood is named in both teams.

Abbott has played 15 T20 matches in his career. He somehow remains unlucky to not play a lot of matches for Australia. He is the record-holder for having taken the most 165 wickets in BBL history and made his presence felt in The Hundred as well, where he gathered nine wickets in seven matches for Birmingham Phoenix. Other fast bowler that makes up the central T20 team is Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis, who took the international cricket scene by storm last season. There are also all-rounders in Cameron Green, Aaron Hardy, and Marcus Stoinis.

The selectors are eyeing the next T20 World Cup in 18 months, although they have not ruled out Starc or Cummins for this format. Johnson aims to recover in time for the start of the Australian domestic season, where he plays for South Australia.

Australia T20 squad against Scotland and England: Mitchell Marsh (captain), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis (wicketkeeper), Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa.
