The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Sunday terminated the services of its chief legal advisor Nilanjan Bhattacharjee who had made serious allegations of corruption against President Kalyan Choubey. Choubey had termed these allegations as baseless.
Bhattacharjee had on Saturday written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, citing 'corruption' in the tender process related to AIFF. He also alleged that Choubey used the federation's funds for personal expenses. Choubey had said that he would answer it legally.
AIFF acting general secretary M Satyanarayana wrote in the dismissal letter to Bhattacharjee on Sunday: "Inform you of the decision of the AIFF to terminate your appointment as Chief Legal Advisor with immediate effect."
AIFF will pay Bhattacharjee for one more month under the contract as one month's notice is required for dismissal. Bhattacharjee said he had expected this.
