New Delhi (India), September 18: Jitavati Das, a budding 17-year-old author who takes a keen interest in the human experience and the realm of spirituality, is soon set to have her popular work Visuddha Prema translated into Bengali, following the massive traction the book has generated on e-commerce platforms. The demand for the translation after the admirable online performance of the book, right after its recent publication in May 2023 by the renowned Notion Press, speaks not just about the great value the book brings to the reader but also the author’s commitment to reaching as many people as possible.
Moreover, in view of the impressive online sales, the book, which is already available in major bookstores across India, will hit the shelves of over 15 stores soon in cities namely Kolkata, Chennai, New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai; marking a phenomenal debut. The rapid expansion of the book’s in-store presence validates the for-all approach the author has taken in order to connect with traditional readers, who usually prefer to make a purchase having experienced the touch and feel of the book.
Further attesting to the splash the book has created across sales channels is the fact that it will soon be exhibited at the world-famous Frankfurt Book Fair, which is known for being a melting pot of ideas and a bastion of cosmopolitan thinking. The author believes this exhibition, set to be held in October will give the book a new set of international audiences, which has long been interested in the themes that are encapsulated in the book: the Indian thought, philosophies and the way of life.
The book has been distributed to various corners of India, spanning even the Doon School in Dehradun. Notably, it has garnered recognition from the Asiatic Society, underscoring its remarkable achievement. This recognition serves as a testament to the book’s widespread reach and exceptional accomplishment.
To elaborate, the book seeks to offer not just an exploration of the spiritual practice of Yoga, the way of life that runs across religions such as Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism but also delves into the tale of Dakshinamurti or Lord Shiva, who is known as the creator of Yoga. Also, with the aim of bringing home the complex ambit of Yoga, Visudhha Prema briefly talks about topics such as Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga in a nuanced yet succinct manner. Highlighting the personal touch and interpretation that Jitavati has brought into her writing on Yoga stand two chapters of the book, namely ‘Yoga is Love’ and ‘Ignorance to Awareness’. With the aim of putting together a comprehensive guide to self-discovery and spiritual growth and awakening, the author also has in the chapter called ‘Perspectives’, shared the experiences of individuals from different age groups that illustrate the work’s overarching message.
About the developing projects surrounding the book, Jitavati said, “ I am elated by the response the book has received so far. As an author nothing is as satisfying as your work being appreciated by the reader. The love that my readers have shared in their slew of reviews has encouraged me to delve deeper into my own quest to understand the all-encompassing spiritual domain.
More importantly, what is immensely rewarding as a writer is that enthusiasm around the book reflects the connection that the readers have felt with it, indicating that I have somewhere addressed an unspoken personal need that they had. This is why I wanted to reach a newer set of audience and thus have dedicated myself to bringing out the Bengali translation of the book along with exhibiting the book on an international forum of repute such as the Frankfurt Book Fair. Also, as an avid reader, I recognised that if I have to reach out to more and more people, I need to tap into that set of conventional readers, who are fond of the touch, feel, and smell of the book before acquiring it. Thus comes the initiative of expanding the Visuddha Prema’s offline presence.”
While speaking about the new developments around the book, the author also elaborated on her inspiration behind the book. She explained, “ I have since my early days been intrigued by the human experience, spirituality and the Indian religio-philosophical discourse, which, I strongly believe, is not limited to any doctrine but instead is a way of life. With age, as my interest in spirituality grew, I dedicated myself to reading more and more about the subject. Also, I have always been fascinated by words and the art of writing. Thus, as the culmination of two of my predominant interests, comes this novel, Visuddha Prema, which means pure love in Sanskrit. On that note, I would also like to add why I chose this title of the book: I strongly believe that the path of Yoga aligns beautifully with all those who have faith in pure love.”
Further, about the book, Krishna Prasad Das from ISKCON, Florida wrote in the foreword, “I believe this will be an enlightening and concise read for the young generations. My gratitude to Jitavati for taking the time to bring this understanding of pure love for God to the attention of her readers”. The high praise from an esteemed member of a major spiritual organisation such as ISKCON validates the author’s mettle and the insights of the work. The recording of the audiobook of Visuddha Prema is in process as well and will soon be released in the months to come on all streaming platforms.
To put it succinctly, set to hit more bookstores and international fora in the coming months, Visudhha Prema presents a bouquet of essential meditations that are the need of today’s chaotic day-to-day life. Moreover, in her future endeavours, Jitavati hopes to add more valuable insights to her readers, as she has in her powerful debut that urges the reader to explore the depths of their consciousness and learn to embrace their true selves, flaws and all.
