The safety concerns have remained the same since the Odisha rail accident last year. As many as 290 people died in the mishap. However, even after the Odisha rail accident, many rail accidents were witnessed. On Tuesday, as many as 18 bogies of Howrah-Mumbai Mail derailed in Barabambo, Jharkhand. Two died in this accident, while more than 20 were injured. As a result of this accident, several trains have derailed in the past six weeks and three passenger train accidents have occurred accompanied by 17 deaths of people.

Now, if we look at the three major train mishaps, then all these accidents happened between June and July this year, in which 17 people died and more than 100 were injured. Last month on June 17, the Kanchenjunga Express met an accident, where it derailed and 11 people died while more than 60 sustained injuries. It is said that a collision near New Jalpaiguri took place because a freight train ignored the signal and collided with the Kanchenjunga Express.

This month on July 18, eight bogies of the train derailed near Gonda railway station in Uttar Pradesh, killing four people and more than 35 people were hurt. About this accident, officials are saying that the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh train accident happened due to sabotage in the track. After this, there can be a collision between Howrah-Mumbai Mail and a goods train on 30 July.

Railways has received an allocation of Rs 2.52 lakh crore this year. According to the data of the Ministry of Railways, there has been a decline in train accidents. There were 473 train incidents till 2000-01. After this, this number came down to 135 in 2014-15 and this number came down to 48 in 2022. In view of the railway accidents, the need for a fast pace in the establishment of the Kavaj system is being felt again and again.

This is a special kind of automatic protection system. Kavaj Protection Technology has been created with the help of Research Design and Standards Organization. It is worth noting that Indian Railways started working on this technology in the year 2012 itself. During that time the name of this technology was Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS). The first trial of this technology was done in the year 2016.
