Tata Motors commercial vehicle sales and passenger vehicle sales decline by 19% & by 6%
Tata Motors Sales Decline: The company has reported total sales of 2,15,034 vehicles, down 12 percent as compared to 2,43,024 units sold during the same period last year.
Commercial vehicle sales of Tata Motors Limited fell by 19% during the second quarter of FY 2024-25. Simultaneously, the sales of passenger vehicles reduced by 6% on a year-on-year basis. The overall sales the company has recorded are 2,15,034 vehicles. This accounts for a reduction of 12% over 2,43,024 units sold in the same period last year. Poor performance on both fronts of commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles has resulted in a decline in sales.
Coming to the domestic market, Tata Motors sold 69,694 vehicles in September 2024. This is 15% less as compared to September 2023. The total number of vehicles sold by Tata Motors domestically in the second quarter of the financial year 2024-25 stood at 2,09,861. This is 11% less than the 2,37,128 vehicles that were sold in the second quarter of the previous financial year.
In the commercial vehicle category, it was the second quarter of the financial year that remained the toughest for it. Its commercial vehicles, which had touched 1,04,085 in the said quarter last year, came down to 84,281 this time.
Domestic commercial vehicle sales were down 23% at 28,631 units as compared to September 2023, therefore representing the tough times for the company in the market. The company has suffered a severe loss within the heavy commercial vehicle part. In the second quarter of this fiscal year, the company sold 22,904 vehicles in the said category. It is 25% lower compared to last year's sales. The prime reason for this is believed to be due to the slowdown of infrastructural projects, a decrease in mining activities, and a heavy monsoon factor.
The sales of ILMCVs, too, dropped by 11%. Of this category, 14,693 vehicles were sold during the second quarter. Its sales in the SCV and pickup fell 25%. The total number of units sold for this category during the second quarter of the current financial year was 31,399 units. On the contrary, the company's passenger segment commercial vehicle business showed resilience during the second quarter. Due to increased demand, total sales in this segment grew by 3% to 10,935 units.
Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors Ltd, said, "Slowdown in the execution of infrastructure projects, reduced mining activity, and heavy rains led to subdued demand, resulting in a 25% decline in the HCV segment in Q2 FY25. The ILMCV (Intermediate and Light Commercial Vehicle) segment declined by 11%."
