Operations will remain suspended at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala on Saturday on the occasion of the organization of the 'Alpasi Arattu' procession. Flight operations will be disrupted between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm. The procession for Alpasi Arattu will be taken out from Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
Thiruvananthapuram International Airport said in a post on X, "The runway at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport remains closed twice a year for the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple procession to pass through."
"The practice of the procession taking the airport path to reach the Shangumugham Beach for the holy bath of the idols began centuries ago. This ritual continues even after the Airport was established in 1932, ensuring that the culture and traditions of the region remains intact," the post said. The airport has issued a passenger advisory, suggesting passengers to check with their respective airlines for updated flight timings.
