Following the completion of his MBBS, Dr. Mukherjee embarked on his Master of Surgery (MS) training in Orthopaedics at D. Y. Patil Medical College, Navi Mumbai. Dr. Mukherjee’s training continued as he joined JJ Hospital & Grant Medical College as a Senior Registrar. There, he managed complex trauma cases and honed his skills in performing independent joint replacement surgeries and Arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder. He gained valuable experience in treating complex fractures and wounds, employing techniques such as bone transport and Ilizarov External Fixator application.
His journey as an academician commenced when he assumed the role of Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at Dr. D Y Patil Hospital, providing teaching and enhancing his surgical skills in hip, knee, and shoulder surgeries. His exposure included the management of bone infections and TB spine, while regularly conducting lectures and training programs for orthopedic postgraduate residents and MBBS students.
To further refine his skills, Dr. Mukherjee spent a year at Apollo Hospital in Navi Mumbai, focusing on complex arthroscopy and joint replacement procedures. Following this, he undertook a two-year MCh program in Orthopaedics in the United Kingdom, gaining experience in complex revision surgeries of hip and knee replacements and the management of sports injuries.
Returning to India, he began his practice at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, where he performed numerous trauma and joint procedures, developing a deep appreciation for teamwork and its vital role in delivering the best results to patients.
Dr. Mukherjee currently serves as a Consultant at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra and L. H. Hiranandani Hospital in Powai. He is known for regularly performing joint replacement surgeries and knee, shoulder, and ankle arthroscopy procedures, and his commitment to international guidelines ensures that his patients receive the best possible treatment.
