Adam Zampa Opts Out of India T20I Series; Tanveer Sangha Named Replacement
Tanveer Sangha replaces Adam Zampa: A major change has been made to the Australian squad ahead of the upcoming T20I series against India. Tanveer Sangha has been included in the Australian squad in place of Adam Zampa.
New South Wales leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has been added to the national T20I team by the Australian selectors for the series against India. Adam Zampa had previously pulled out of the opening match in the series for personal reasons connected with his wife's pregnancy. Now, he has also been sidelined for the T20I series. Cricket Australia officially announced on Monday that Sangha would travel with the team in Canberra to precede the opening T20I against South Africa at Manuka Oval on Wednesday.
The leg-spinner, from 23 years old, last appeared in a T20I cricket game in 2023. He claimed 10 wickets in seven matches at a performance average of 24.90, including career-best figures of 4-31 against South Africa in Durban. Sangha has been in excellent form recently and tops the One-Day Cup wicket charts for the New South Wales Blues with 10 dismissals at an average of 14.10.
He also impressed during Australia's recent tour of India, taking seven wickets in three List A matches in Kanpur. Zampa, who is expecting his second child, also missed the first ODI against India in Perth as a precautionary measure. His temporary absence has paved the way for Sangha's inclusion in the T20 squad.
