10 important agreements between India-Bangladesh, people of neighboring country will get medical e-visa facility
India Bangladesh: Bangladeshi PM said that 'India is our major neighbor, trusted friend and regional partner. Bangladesh attaches great importance to its relations with India, which started with the Liberation War of 1971.'
India and Bangladesh on Saturday signed several agreements, including promoting relations in the maritime sector and blue economy. The agreements were finalized after extensive talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina. These agreements signed by both sides also include an agreement to strengthen relations in the digital domain and a 'green partnership'.
An agreement to increase railway connectivity between the two countries was also signed. Speaking to the media after the agreements, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his statement, 'Today we have prepared a future vision for cooperation in new areas. The youth of both countries will benefit from the agreement reached on cooperation in areas like green partnership, digital partnership, ocean-based economy, and space.'
In her statement, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina described India as Bangladesh's major neighbor and trusted friend. She said that 'India is our major neighbor, trusted friend, and regional partner. Bangladesh attaches great importance to its relations with India, which began with the Liberation War of 1971.'
India has stated that it will grant a medical e-visa opportunity to Bangladeshi citizens. The Government of India will establish a Deputy High Commission in Rangpur, Bangladesh. Along with this, both countries have agreed to deploy a technical team to explore water sharing on the Teesta River. PM Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart have signed a total of ten agreements, including those on digital partnership, green partnership, maritime cooperation, ocean-based economy, space cooperation, railway connectivity, marine research, mutual security and strategic cooperation, health and disaster management, and fisheries.
The Bangladeshi PM said, 'I remember with gratitude the contribution of the Government of India and the people of India in the independence of Bangladesh.' Sheikh Hasina also paid tribute to the brave martyrs of India who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 war. She said, 'Today we had very useful meetings, in which we discussed cooperation in the areas of security, trade, connectivity, sharing of waters of shared rivers, power and energy, and regional and multilateral cooperation. We agreed to cooperate with each other for the betterment of our people and countries.'
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh came in India on Friday for a two-day visit. This is a foreign leader's first bilateral state visit since India's new government was formed following the Lok Sabha elections. Sheikh Hasina visited Rajghat on Saturday morning to pay respect to Mahatma Gandhi. Prior to the conference, the Bangladeshi Prime Minister was honoured in a large ceremony. He was formally welcomed to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Sheikh Hasina was one of seven prominent leaders from India's neighbouring countries and the Indian Ocean area who attended Prime Minister Modi's and the Union Council of Ministers' swearing in event on June 9.
