Will Chabahar agreement with Iran prove to be a masterstroke, will Pakistan and China sweat; This is India's plan
Chabahar Port Pact: India is going to take a historic step at the international level to give a befitting reply to Pakistan and China. Reliable sources have said that the important Chabahar port agreement will be signed between Iran and India. For this, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has left for Iran on Monday. Let us tell you that after this agreement, India will take over the management of Chabahar Port for a decade.
This will be the first time India assumes control of an overseas port. A significant international agreement between India and Iran will be signed today, right in the middle of election season.
In fact, India will sign the deal with Iran on Monday concerning the administration of Chabahar Port, which will heighten the hostilities between China and Pakistan. In light of this, Union Minister of Ports and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal departed for Iran on Monday.
India will assume control of Chabahar Port management for the ensuing ten years following this agreement. Bypassing Karachi and the Pakistani ports of Gwadar, this calculated strategic move will create a new trade route via Iran that connects South and Central Asia. In terms of connectivity, Chabahar Port will prove to be very important between Afghanistan, Central Asia, and Eurasian regions.
The contract for Chabahar Port Operations will be another major achievement of India's growing maritime reach in the region. Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had inaugurated the Sittwe port in Myanmar exactly a year ago – in May 2023. Let us tell you that the objective of both is to neutralize the increasing Chinese presence in the area.
India aims to make Chabahar port a transit hub under the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) to reach CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries. INSTC is India's vision to economize the movement of goods between India and Central Asia. Chabahar Port will serve as a commercial transit center for the region.
INSTC is a multi-modal transportation route connecting the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea via Iran and Northern Europe via St. Petersburg in Russia.
Earlier this January, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi had discussed expediting the implementation of Iran-India agreements, including the Chabahar port development plan, and further compensation.
