India Semiconductor Mission: 4 Major Projects Approved, ₹1.5 Lakh Cr Investment Expected
IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that India will soon get its first semiconductor chip, which Prime Minister Modi will dedicate to the country. A unit built at a cost of Rs 7,600 crore was inaugurated in Sanand, Gujarat. This project has been established with 50% financial assistance under the India Semiconductor Mission.
Union Information and Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced on Thursday that India will soon produce its first semiconductor chip. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate this inaugural chip to the nation. Vaishnav also inaugurated the advanced outsourced semiconductor assembly and test facility of CG Semi Private Limited in Sanand district, Gujarat.
Vaishnav stated that this facility has been established by CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited in partnership with Renesas Electronics of America and Stars Microelectronics of Thailand, with an investment of approximately Rs 7,600 crore. Additionally, this project will receive 50% financial support from the India Semiconductor Mission.
The Union Minister described this milestone as a significant step in India's semiconductor journey. He mentioned visiting plants of Micron, Cans, and Dholera, noting that work is progressing rapidly across all sites. “This dream is now becoming a reality,” he added. He emphasized that the India Semiconductor Mission is not only focused on building factories but also on developing talent.
