Big gift to young players, now Khelo India medal winners also get government jobs
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday announced a big gift to the players of the Khelo India Games. He told on X that Khelo India medal-winning players will now be eligible for government jobs. The norms have been amended for this.
Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister of Sports, revealed on Wednesday that the Khelo India Games athletes would receive a significant gift. Players who won medals at the Khelo India tournament will now be qualified for government employment, he said on X. For this, the standards have been modified. He claimed that in taking this action, the government is honouring Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal of building a robust sports ecosystem, developing talent at the local level, and making sports a desirable career path. In light of this, the Department of Personnel and Training has modified the requirements for players applying for government jobs, consulting with the Sports Ministry. Players from Khelo India who have won medals in the Youth, University, Para, and Winter categories are now qualified for government positions.
It is noteworthy that Khelo India was organized for the first time in 2018. Till now the winners of these competitions are awarded prizes and scholarships. This competition aims to prepare young athletes for the international level.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that the revised rules will play an important role in making India a sports superpower.
