NMDC Limited has completed its 2 MTPA pellet plant at Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh. This is a part of an integrated project costing ₹5,427 crores and comprising iron ore beneficiation, slurry pipeline, and pellet production facilities. This project links NMDC's iron ore mine operations in Bacheli with the steel plant in Nagarnar. NMDC Limited is the largest producer of iron ore in India and is one of the nine Navratna PSUs in the Ministry of Steel.
This project consists of a new iron ore processing plant at Bacheli, 15 MTPA slurry pipeline, and 2 MTPA pellet plant at Nagarnar. This 135-km-long slurry pipeline would take the iron ore concentrate from Bacheli to Nagarnar, offering an alternate to road transportation.
These plants shall enable NMDC to beneficiate the fines and slimes generated by the Bailadila iron mines into concentrate and then process the concentrate into pellets. The pellet plant uses 'straight grate induration technology' for production of pellets for steel making purposes.
Amitabh Mukherjee, Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC Limited, said, "Today is a very proud day for everyone at NMDC. Completing this project, which included processing facilities, a slurry pipeline, and a pellet plant, wasn't easy. But today is a very special day. It's a day we've been waiting for a long time. Today, our collective dream is coming true."
The commissioning of this plant further strengthens NMDC's presence in the iron ore value chain, encompassing everything from mining and beneficiation to slurry transportation and pellet production. It adds a new value-added product to the company's portfolio and allows it to more efficiently utilize iron ore fines and slimes from its Bailadila mines. This project is part of NMDC's larger expansion and diversification strategy, as the company works towards increasing its iron ore production capacity to 100 million tonnes in the long term.
The slurry pipeline passes through 61 villages in Bastar and Dantewada districts. It is designed to reduce the transportation of processed ore by road, provide an alternative mode of transportation, reduce dependence on railways, and ensure a dedicated link between NMDC's Bacheli operations and Nagarnar.
NMDC's share price is ₹79.90. Its market cap is ₹70246.62 crore. It has given a return of 6.55% in 1 year. In 3 years, the stock has given a return of 19.10%. In 5 years, the company's share return is 17.12%.
