The Central Government has made a crucial decision and put a ban on Telegram due to the NEET (UG) re-test examination which is due to take place on June 21. The Government has put a ban on Telegram till June 22.

The National Testing Agency stated, "The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued a directive under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Under this directive, access to the Telegram platform in India has been restricted for a fixed and limited period (until June 22, 2026). This period includes the day of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination and the period immediately thereafter."

The agency further stated, "The directive requires the platform to disable the message-editing feature for messages already posted in India by a specified time (June 30, 2026). This action was taken in response to a specific feature that has been used to fabricate evidence of a paper leak after an incident related to national examinations."

The NTA stated that the purpose of restricting message editing was to prevent users from creating false evidence of a paper leak by editing old messages while maintaining the original timestamps.

The agency said these restrictions would inconvenience authentic Telegram users, but added that the measures are temporary and necessary to maintain the integrity of the exam. The agency reiterated that the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination is scheduled to be held on June 21 and urged candidates to depend only on NTA’s official channels for updates.
