The High-Power Committee asked the NTA to stop depending on private agencies and to develop their own test platform in order to avoid paper leaks. However, even now the NTA is dependent on private agencies.
The proposal was made after the 2024 NEET-UG paper leak revealed that private agencies were involved in the majority of examination-related activities.
Dr. K., former head of ISRO, along with other members of the High Power Committee headed by Mr. Radhakrishnan, proposed two recommendations for the NTA to ensure credibility in conducting the examination. Some recommendations required urgent measures, while some recommended bigger steps.
Among these recommendations, the committee recommended that the NTA develop its own examination platform and infrastructure, eliminating reliance on private agencies and developing its own software and specialized hardware.
Not only this, the committee recommended adopting these recommendations only after pilot testing. Significantly, the committee submitted these recommendations to the NTA and the Ministry of Education in October 2024, but even after this, the NTA did not end its reliance on private agencies. Sources suggest that until the NTA ends its reliance on private agencies, the potential for malpractice in examinations will remain.
The Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, has written to the Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors, and Administrators of all states seeking their cooperation in holding the NEET-UG re-examination successfully, which is slated to be held on June 21. He also urged them to ensure all necessary basic amenities at examination centers for the candidates, given the intense heat and heatwave conditions.
In his letter to the states, Pradhan has asked them to ensure safe drinking water, adequate seating arrangements, working fans and coolers, clean toilets, shaded waiting areas, and uninterrupted power supply at examination centers for the convenience of the candidates.
Keeping the interests of students in mind, he also urged all state governments to ensure adequate transportation facilities for the candidates on examination day.
