According to an announcement made by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday, they have made over 100 beds available in municipal hospitals in anticipation of injuries sustained by Govindas participating in the Dahi-Handi celebrations.
The competing Govinda teams would participate in Janamashtami on Saturday through breaking the clay pots containing curd by forming multi-story human pyramids. Each year, there are numerous injuries among the Govindas resulting from their fall during the process.
BMC said all municipal hospitals would offer free services to injured Govindas. According to one statement, over 100 beds would be kept reserved in 16 suburban municipal hospitals and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital in Sion, Kem Hospital in Parel and Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central.
The statement said that Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Prajakta Verma Lavangare has directed the Deans, Chief Medical Superintendents and Medical Superintendents of municipal hospitals to ensure preparedness for the treatment of Govindas.
