Mercedes-Benz's new CLA has received a 5-star safety rating in Euro NCAP crash tests. The model comes equipped with either a petrol or an electric engine in Europe. The CLA performed excellently in the following test categories: adults and children occupant protection, pedestrian protection, and intelligent driver-assist systems.
In adult occupant protection, the CLA scored 94 percent. According to Euro NCAP, this reflects the car's robust structure and excellent safety systems. The car's cabin remained stable in frontal collision tests. It provided good protection for the driver and front passenger's vital body parts, including the head, neck, chest, and legs.
It received 89% for child safety. The car is equipped with airbags that automatically inflate in case it detects a child seat in the passenger seat, making sure that there are no injuries caused.
CLA received 93% for pedestrian and cyclist protection owing to the emergency braking system and other safety features. Euro NCAP commended it for detecting approaching cyclists.
The car also features a system that activates when a door is opened. This system helps prevent collisions with cyclists approaching from behind. Furthermore, the car's bonnet and front end are designed to minimize injuries in the event of a collision with a pedestrian. These factors contributed to the car's high score in this category.
The CLA comes standard with Level-2 ADAS. This includes features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keeping Assistant, and Multi-Collision Braking. The Multi-Collision Braking system helps reduce the risk of potential collisions or side-effects after the initial impact.
Mercedes-Benz has also provided an advanced eCall system that automatically alerts emergency services in the event of a serious accident. It also includes water-sensing and door-opening safety measures to aid in post-accident evacuation.
